The EOS RP was Canon’s second full-frame mirrorless camera, and it’s smaller, thinner, and more affordable than all of the others. It’s designed to be a compact, affordable, and easy-to-use entry point into Canon’s full-frame mirrorless system, and it succeeds brilliantly. Its diminutive dimensions suggest it can sometimes feel overbalanced by more substantial lenses, though, and the 4K video mode comes with some caveats – the image frame is cropped by a factor of 1.6. You can’t utilize Canon’s speedy Dual Pixel CMOS AF system unless you drop the resolution to full HD. Highlighting a high-resolution 26.2MP full-frame CMOS sensor along with a DIGIC 8 image processor, both images and UHD 4K video can be recorded utilizing a broad sensitivity range, from ISO 100-40000, to suit operating in a variety of lighting situations. Continuous shooting is also supported at up to 5 fps for photographing moving subjects. The sensor also promotes an advanced Dual Pixel CMOS AF system, with 4779 selectable on-sensor phase-detection points for swiftly and accurately acquiring focus during stills and video operation. On the upside, the photos are clear and sharp, the vari-angle touchscreen display is a true advantage for both stills and video, and the inclusion of an EF lens adaptor indicates you can use existing Canon DSLR lenses besides the new but growing RF lens system.

The EOS M series has, in the past, often seemed a little like the hated child of the Canon family. Fortunately, with the arrival of the EOS M6 Mark II, the firm can eventually be said to be taking its APS-C mirrorless line seriously. The M6 Mark II sports a powerhouse of a sensor in the form of a 32.5MP APS-C chip and can burst-shoot at 14fps or up to 30fps in RAW Burst mode. Then there’s also uncropped 4K video, an expandable ISO maximum of 51,200, and a high-resolution tilting touchscreen. Its APS-C-sized 32.5MP CMOS sensor delivers intensified image clarity, resolution, and dynamic range, along with adept sensitivity to ISO 25600 and low sound to suit operating in a variety of situations. Combined with excellent image processing, this sensor is also competent in outputting UHD 4K30p and Full HD 120p video and supporting continuous stills shooting rates up to 14 fps with AF and AE tracking. The Dual Pixel CMOS AF gives 5481 selectable points for accurate, smooth, and fast focusing for both image and video. Support for Eye AF Servo prioritizes subjects’ eyes when photographing portraits. Complementing the imaging abilities, the EOS M6 Mark II includes a 3.0″ 1.04m-dot touchscreen LCD, which has a 180° tilting design for front-facing shots. Also, built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity enable you to pair mobile devices with the camera to transfer files for sharing your photos and films online wirelessly.

The Canon EOS M50 is an upper entry-level mirrorless camera with a 24 Megapixel APSC sensor, confident autofocus, small yet crisp OLED viewfinder, excellent wireless, and it becomes Canon’s first mirrorless with 4k video, a fully-articulated touchscreen, eye detection, and silent shooting options. Sadly the 4k is of restricted use, using a severe crop and only operating with less confident contrast-based autofocus. We are also frustrated there’s no USB charging, especially since the battery is moderately weak.
