CES 2021 SONY announces NEW AIRPEAK DRONE and takes on DJI

Today at CES 2021 Sony has announced its NEW AIRPEAK DRONE to takes on DJI in the aerial photography and video market.

This is something that SONY has been teasing for a long time. And the design of the drone on first appearance does seem to draw inspiration from the DJI inspire range.

But Sony’s new AIRPEAK DRONE is design to fly Full Frame Mirrorless cameras to give creators and filmmakers better more flexible storytelling options without sacrificing quality.

The Sony A7siii with the AIRPEAK drone is an amazing camera. Adding the ability to fly this camera is going to open up massive storytelling capabilities. Let’s hope the system doesn’t come with an unattainable price tag.

Another great player enters the drone market, i think that’s very good news for all of us!

It looks to me like it DOES have a built-in camera (we can clearly see it in the footage).

Is it only for obstacle avoidance ?

It looks to me like that camera could be for the drone pilot (maybe it doesn’t record), while the "payload camera" could very well be controlled by a different operator.
