It may be just me, or I’m in a more niche category of player, since I’m a dancer, the Kinect was miles away from the Wii and their remote. It was just so much more complex and it’s dancing games were more targeted to actual dancers. Dance Central was a game changer. Eh. The good old days.

The Wii achieved the 100 million units sold because it was popular for institutions like the military and hospitals, also why the wii had such a low number of games per console being sold.

I remember playing Kinect adventures on my brothers XBox 360 when he got it and it was fun enough, but it was also pretty apparent that it wasn’t nearly good enough to be a serious alternative to a real controller and that pretty much doomed it from the very beginning. If something like Steel Battalion worked really well (or at least to a servicable level) I think it could have opened a whole new avenue for motion controlled games, but as it was it just cemented what everyone already knew.

Also it was pretty easy to hate it back in the day because it was such an obvious attempt to copy Nintendos success with the Wii and it never seemed like it was even meant for "real" gaming in the first place, something that the launch games pretty much supported. If Microsoft included Kinect adventures and a more serious AAA game with the Kinect it would probably have been more accepted from the get go.

Damn, me and Scott got our Kinects and 360s in the exact same way and for the exact same reasons. Even got the same storage size. Only difference is I got BF3 and Halo 3 instead of Yoostar 2, since I’m a fucking pussy.

  23. Elijah Mills on March 11, 2020 at 4:18 pm

About 30% of 360 owners had a Kinect
    (Kinect = 24M units sold)

Kinect Adventures was packed in with every Kinect.

Halo 3 has 14.5M units sold.

Kinect Adventures is the best selling 360 exclusive on the console. Let that sink in.

  31. The Espers on March 11, 2020 at 4:28 pm

Child of Eden on Kinect was woefully underrated. I actually briefly held a world record in it…

…I mean, I was the third person to beat it, but hey, those other two weren’t as good as me.

When family was having dinner in the dining area, wich was connected to the living room (no pun intended), we noticed the Kinect sensor staring right at us from the right.
It was both cute and freaky.

  42. Daniel Martin on March 11, 2020 at 4:46 pm

I remember when the Kinect was first announced, I was mesmerized. I thought the Kinect Hub and the games such as Joyride, Adventures, and even fucking Harry Potter and the deathly hollows looked so cool with the motion controls.

Friendly reminder that when the Xbox One came out they released a new version of Kinect with it.
I don’t think anyone even remembers that.
