What do you suggest for a first time camera buyer. I need 4 camera inside and 4 outside. I need to keep an eye on my grandma inside and out 24/7 live recording where I can see from my phone at all times.

One question I would have, is how many of these devices require a windows-only setup, especially the NVR? My home is a window-free zone, all linux, only linux. I will NOT buy something that requires I use some special windows-only software to setup/configure, or manage it, or that require MSIE or a windows-only browser plugin to view/control – certainly not for something that costs over 400 bucks.

  3. Ole Dog on December 12, 2021 at 9:16 pm

Build your own is the best way. Synology as nvr is easy.

  4. Rick Rivera on December 12, 2021 at 9:16 pm

I don’t have home internet. Do you know of a good easy to install home security system that does not require home internet? I just don’t have the need for internet at home. My cell phone has all the internet I need. I’ve been to Best Buy and they say all their cameras require internet service.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Great video! Thank you for sharing this. How about network bandwidth? How many cameras can you actually have befor bandwidth becomes a issue? Say gigabit home network with 100/100 ISP connection?
    Thanks

I would not trust eufy. It’s a chinese company that won’t reveal whether thier servers are located either U.S. or China. Your personal info might get hacked by thier equipment and have had security breech problems.

I want a security camera plug in compatible with 5G

  8. Jerry Montalbano on December 12, 2021 at 9:19 pm

No mention on the NVR Reolink. It appears it comes with 4 camera NETWORK RJ45 inputs. Suppose I want 7 around my house? Also, with the box, do I just run one wire up the wall into the attick to a central location, and then run RJ45 FROM each camera to a hub up there? or type of spider cable for that many? Thanks.

  9. Pippol on December 12, 2021 at 9:19 pm

What cameras should i use if i have to install 15 cameras over 5 acres of land and the cameras have to have continuous recording plus all the camera screens viewable from 1 room / office.

Hello thank you for your video and I have one question I hope you can answer. I have a neighbor that seems to be able to control one of my blink cameras whenever they come near my property the camera is instantly turned off and all footage is gone sometimes with even a brick wall showing in place of the footage. When they leave it comes back on again. This happens many times so I know it’s no coincidence. Can you tell me what I can do to stop this from happening or block it somehow thank you for your time John Wyatt

    Great info. What about Synology?

  12. Steve Grumpka on December 12, 2021 at 9:22 pm

Thanks for the video. I didn’t see a link to how you hooked up direct to a PC as your base station. This is a solution I’d be most interested in, as I assume it has the most flexibility and requires no monthly service fees. We have a large property. I’d like to monitor all sides of our home. We have an empty attic with easy access. So dropping lines down to the base station would be easy enough. Love to see what you came up wiht. Thanks.

ok, what are best wireless remote cameras with solar power that record to a chip that dont need wifi or cell signal to set up and run

  14. notsogreat123 on December 12, 2021 at 9:25 pm

I don’t want anything that has to be connected to the internet for daily viewing. The only time I want it on the internet is when I am away from home for remote viewing. No wifi camera’s unless they work without the internet. I don’t even want to think about being hacked ! Period !!

  15. Greenville on December 12, 2021 at 9:26 pm

Thanks for the really helpful video. I’ve been watching single reviews until my eyes bled. This summary and the recommendation are just what I was looking for. Also, I’m so glad you are in the ‘no fees’ camp. That drives me nuts.

  16. me999 on December 12, 2021 at 9:28 pm

Ok, you finally got to the "good stuff" at the end. But too bad your recommended pick is windows-only.

I’m interested in a blink outdoor camera system. I’m on a budget, single and female. Any advice or comments?

I bought the Reolink Lumus, but it turns out it has no rtsp stream or any other way to connect to Blue Iris. Did I miss that in the review?

  21. karimba45 on December 12, 2021 at 9:34 pm

    Fantastic video thanks!

  22. Darren Simpson on December 12, 2021 at 9:37 pm

Have you reviewed or have an opinion on Vivint’s camera and doorbell cam?

  23. Jakob on December 12, 2021 at 9:37 pm

I purchased a Xiaomi IMlab variant two or 3 years back, and Im very impressed with that unit..for the price it was 19USD from China, and it’s 360 motor-driven (vert horisontal) and takes a SD card under the lens.
Full HD, so with a 64GB card and its H 265. encoding. I can record continuously for like 7 to 9 days… before it starts to loop older recordings if I choose that.. and also got IR so obviously changes automatically ti black & white… but the footage quality is shockingly good with the price in mind and the Xiaomi app. gives all the features that I need, and can set the sizes, so it doesn’t trigger fx insects.. and I can watch as I please and set the alarm interval so it doesn’t divebomb me with notices and clips.
If this unit had cost like 5x that. it would be great. and you can have a live widget with the feed on your android tablet/mobile.
and it also got all that jazz with two-way communications to you can talk, and hear the other end.. can also be used a baby monitoring camera that triggers on babycry
It power from 5v small USB plug, so easy to just put it with a power bank.
Had problems with bad postal here in Copenhagen that didn’t want to go up stairs and deliver item, so they would just say we ring the bell, but nobody was at home.. and its really annoying when you sitting and waiting for a parcel when an a-hole postal dude make that crap.
so a power bank and out on the balcony… it consumes like 0.100 to 0.300mA at 5v.. depending on motors are running etc… but the sensitivity are quite impressive, and how fast it records.. the moment something comes inside its viewpoint.., like instant when looking at how far people have walked inside the viewfinder before it records..
They have really come a long way these security cams.. not many years ago.. such features and abilities would have cost an arm and a leg.

One caution on Eufy… unless I’m mistaken it’s a Chinese company. Not just made in China but HQ in China.

  34. Greetings, it'sme! on December 12, 2021 at 9:58 pm

Nice presentation, you sure know your stuff.
What do you recommend for us "off grid" users.
We rely on solar with maybe a Yeti 150 battery pack/inverter.
And, we have no internet connection.
    Thx in advance.

  35. jay on December 12, 2021 at 9:59 pm

Is there a simple option that records to an SD card? I’d rather not have surveillance of my house "in the cloud". But I’m not super tech savvy so I’m sure my options are limited. We’re a little worried about leaving the kids alone with a baby sitter but not so worried that I NEED live feed. Any advice would be appreciated.
