Ultimate Drone Buying Guide for Total Beginners 2020

Best Drones for beginners that still shoot pro quality video and photos compared.
Mavic Mini vs. Mavic Air 2 vs. Autel Evo II Pro 6K vs. Mavic 2 Pro vs. DJI Inspire 2 with X5S

Link to the Editing & Cinematography drone course, includes the drone business/marketing course now too so they are just one thing.
$100 Off because I love you I guess:

If you’re on a mega-budget, I should make an honorary mention to the good old Phantom 3 Standard. Shoots 2.7k on a 1/2.3″ sensor but shoots 12 megapixel RAW photos just like the bigger models. Its really capable and cheap as crap now because its old, should be able to find it used on Craigslist, Ebay, Facebook Marketplace, Offerup for like $250 or lower.

Mavic Mini – $400
2.7k and JPEG only but only $400 and can live in your pocket

Mavic Air 2 – $800
4K 1/2 inch sensor and REALLY bang for your buck at $800, such a good deal. 60fps as well.

Mavic 2 Pro – $1500
4K 1 inch sensor, 20 megapixel RAW photos. The holy grail, still worth it. Still worth just getting and not worth waiting on some Mavic 3 that’s ‘coming anyday’ just like the last 2 years, seriously.

Autel Evo II 6K – $1800 [NOT the 8K version please]
6K 1 inch sensor, 20 megapixel photos. More like 4K-equivalent really. Kind of weird, just got it so still testing but when you get over the odd stuff it has a GREAT picture, maybe on par with the Mavic 2 Pro, but not as intuitive, easy to fly, cool to show all the dads on the beach, or as feature rich. I’ll do a review later but so far has helped me pick up exactly 0 step-moms.

Inspire 2 + X5S camera – $8000+ Used
Shoots 5.2K RAW Video (literally filming in RAW photos)
5.2K 422 Prores and 4K Proress 4444 incase you know what that all means. Its an insanely high quality image that is mega flexible and so enjoyable just to watch ungraded b-roll with it, but man is it a pain in the butt to get out, lug around, deal with the attention and the noise it has. It’s more like a once in a while, Ace in the hole to blow something out the water or shoot Stock Footage and practice cinematography. Interchangeable lenses are really nice too.

Love your videos, as a beginner this information is gold. I love your locations too I’m sure one of the places is Ballano at Lake Como, Italy. Do you have any course on learning who to fly and who to get the best video and images. Does the camera take 360 video?

  6. Sentinel Of Freedom Forever on March 28, 2021 at 9:19 pm

I have 12 drones primarily I film outdoor video snowmobiling fly fishing whatever I’m not spending another penny on drones until they start including audio it’s the most aggravating thing in the world to have all this great video and not a damn sound especially when I’m doing fly fishing videos or snowmobileing videos The sound of the river or the sound of the snowmobiles will easily drowned out any background noise I have from them flight If anybody knows of something that I don’t like a good quality drone that has audio I would love to know which one it is

That was the best and objective review I’ve seen in a looong time. Straight forward, and laid it out in steps. I especially appreciate the time to go through each level practically.

  25. Rolando J Gorbea on March 28, 2021 at 9:50 pm

Thanks for the great video! So, I’m in real estate and would like to offer high quality drone footage of my customers homes for them. Because it would be used exclusively for pictures and video of properties (something that doesn’t require an advanced cinematic experience) would the mavic mini suffice, or would you recommend another device? I appreciate your time.

  26. Laura Hollingsworth on March 28, 2021 at 9:51 pm

Thank you, this was exactly the video I was looking for.

  27. Flamenco on March 28, 2021 at 9:52 pm

Never owned a drone before and I am ready to buy one. was thinking of getting the Mavic Mini II, till I saw the DJI FPV which does what I have always imagined doing with a drone, the VR set, flips, and speed, but I feel like I am buying a Ferrari while still learning how to drive and I should start with the Mini and see how it goes before upgrading..

  28. B C on March 28, 2021 at 9:52 pm

3:33 Wow I have seen a lot of drone reveal shots on youtube. And that has got to be one of the best I’ve seen. Where was that taken?

  29. Kevin riser on March 28, 2021 at 9:53 pm

QuickAss? You mean Dumbass? People should start with learning how to fly a $20 drone without GPS, optical flow, or even altitude hold. REAL flying. Sooner or later you will need those skills to save your DEEJEEIII.

  33. Magray Rai on March 28, 2021 at 9:56 pm

  35. Fran Ferrario on March 28, 2021 at 9:57 pm

  36. Jonathan on March 28, 2021 at 10:00 pm

your voice reminds me of Joe Rogan.

  37. Sebastian Elm on March 28, 2021 at 10:01 pm

Great videos, i really appreciate your effort! Do you have an opinion on the Mini 2 compared to the Air 2? I am intrigued by the small size, 4K and Raw shooting and am wondering if this would open the possibilities for entry professional work like the Air 2.

  38. Simon Gremel on March 28, 2021 at 10:02 pm

From my understanding in part 107 you can’t fly over 400 ft AGL. Is this true? If not, where can I find a law that says otherwise? Thanks!

  39. b9y on March 28, 2021 at 10:04 pm

I’m 31. I’ve been using YouTube since it first appeared and I’m not kidding when I say…your videos are easily some of the best tutorials / guides on this platform. Legit brilliant. I’m planning on buying a drone soon so, super helpful. Thanks!

Now that the new Mavic mini 2 shoots in 4k, does it make it a better choice than the Mavic air 2?
