If you’re in the market for a new Nikon Full Frame FX Camera and you’re not sure what the differences are, this video is for you. Even though Nikon has more than four full frame cameras on the market currently, I only consider these four to be the ones I would purchase new. The Nikon Z7, Z6, D850 and D5. The Nikon D750 which is a fantastic camera is on it’s last legs and lacks some modern features. The Nikon Df, well, yea, that was DOA.

How things change. I’ve had a D850 for two years and d610 before that and a D7000 before that. I’d never sell the D850 the photos are beautiful. I also had a couple of mid range mirror less and Lumix and Fuji. Good but not as good as the D850 for stills and for me mirrorless was always more toy like than my Nikon’s. But Mirrorless is the way forward. A mirror flapping up and down in this day and age seems ridiculous and the prospect of good EVF is very enticing. But I think I’m going to go Sony next

Hi Jared…first time on your youtube site. I’m currently weighing up whether to buy a D750 or D850 ( price difference is circa $1000 AUD ). I currently own a D200 and will probably keep it as backup. I shoot landscape and moving into Astrophotography…video is something I’l dabble in but not high on the agenda ( at this stage ). I’m leaning more to the D850 ( later model and higher spec’d ) …..what advice would you offer. (PS there is a D5 for sale at $4000 AUD secondhand but I take your point it’s probably the last of its kind but would it be a better choice than a D850 ….if I can the price down to $3000 AUD?? ). Hope to hear back from you.

Just try and find an 850 for sale these days

  6. James Treveil on January 10, 2022 at 4:31 am

The only thing holding me back from the z cameras is the lack of duel cards. I’m a wedding photographer so really need that security. Hoping they bring out revised models soon.

Wow I saw a footage of you shooting at Longwood Garden, beautiful place!

  8. Dale Watkins on January 10, 2022 at 4:35 am

Seems odd, here in late 2020, getting a D850 isn’t as easy as it was previously, as everyone seems to be backordered on them for the most part! They’re still that popular, that it’s hard to get your hands on one….albeit I’m sure there will be many to come in the near future. Rarely, and I mean very rarely, do you hear of negative things on the D850. I’ve been happy with my D750 for four years, but the 850 will be my next step forward.

    Thank you!

As professionals say – 90% just own cameras and 10% use them !!! . My suggestion – get D850 or canon equivalent if you can throw cash and start using it . It will take at least three years to master every feature in camera – not kidding !!

    None!

Please stop saying DSLR are dinosaurs or something.
Not only super annoying to hear that all the time in every video you put out, but a tremendous lie.
DSLR are as dinosaurs as gasoline cars are in comparison to electric cars. One day potentially, not today or anytime soon. Thanks for the great quality videos though.

Why are the camera companies pushing mirrorless cameras? Don’t they care about the consumers any more? It makes me mad that I’ve got a ton of money in my DSLR equipment and they push this new mirrorless camera, that I will not buy, I’m just tired of spending all this money.

  18. Israel Bahena on January 10, 2022 at 4:52 am

This was an amazing video thumbs up all the way, I am new into camera footage and opens up a lot of ideas and things I want as far as shooting videos and pictures.

  19. GREEN HEART on January 10, 2022 at 4:52 am

Honestly I like this guy for 1 reason, he’s real … especially after his review of the Z9 … I have a question for you Jared. you own the Nikkor 24-70 F2.8 VR. but i didn’t see your video comparing it with Tamron 24-70 F2.8 G2 …which one do you recommend to use with D850 ?

  22. pjimmbo jimmbo on January 10, 2022 at 4:56 am

The D850, at least mine is a POS. Never has it ever taken an in focus picture, about 5% are almost close, but… It doesn’t matter what mode the AF is in. It is also much noisier at anything over 200ISo than my D810 was. Worst Nikon I have ever owned, since I switched to Nikon in 1985. It truly is a Piece of Shit

  23. Nate's HOn3 East Broad Top Railroad on January 10, 2022 at 4:56 am

I started with a D60, upgraded to a D500 but since I had a stroke trying to hand hold the D500 with a 17-50 F2.8, totaling close to 5 pounds, my hands get fatigued very quickly so I’m looking into a Z series but waiting for a Z6 replacement with 2 card slots and improved auto focus

Wondering just how many "Pro" shooters there actually are by reading some of the ridiculous comments on here? Amusing to say the least.

  26. Awais Khan on January 10, 2022 at 5:01 am

Bought my D3100 in 2011, its been 10 years i squeezed a lot out of that d3100 its been a great cam for me, now i am in the market for an upgrade and things have changed a lot since then, i am more leaning towards mirrorless but i dont want that adaptor thing to use my old collection f mount lenses. If i go mirrorless way i will definitely go for Sony.

  33. Lance Selda on January 10, 2022 at 5:07 am

I am mostly a portrait photographer. I like my fps. But I am slightly touching of videos now. I have a d610 currently. Now I know you suggested for videos for the mirrorless but worth buying saying with all the f mounts i have from my previous lenses money-wise? Thinking that way I am leaning on the D850 but also looking to the Z6/Z6ii. Suggestions please?

    Greetings from Calcutta, India.
Mr Polin, Could you please do a comparison between D850 and Z7 mark 2?

  36. David Caine on January 10, 2022 at 5:11 am

Jared, after watching about 6 of your video’s on the Z7, Z7ii, Z6ii and Z6, I learned so much that I knew what I needed commensurate with my skills and my desire, AND my wallet, so I just ordered the Z6 with 2 lens, and a lens attachment to enjoy my F4s camera lenses again. That is so exciting and I appreciate the enormous skill and findings you share in your video’s. Thank you!

  37. macicana64 on January 10, 2022 at 5:14 am

body, battery and 2 XQD Slots of the D5, Resolution of the D850 and focus points, electronic viewfinder and Z-mount of the Z7 and we have the holy grail;…. am I asking too much Nikon?

  38. Raffi Alexander on January 10, 2022 at 5:15 am

    Great video

  39. Indra Ghosh on January 10, 2022 at 5:15 am

I recently got the Z6 with adapter from Nikon at 1.21L INR which almost equals to 1640$ and I am super happy with the purchase.
The quality of stills are stunning and mirrorless systems are fast, man! They are really faster than DSLRs.
I’ll also buy the D850 in few months or a year but only for the 45.7MP sensor. Otherwise my Z6 does the job seamlessly!!

  40. nodata78 on January 10, 2022 at 5:17 am

Is it worth to change from my d4 to z 6ii?

  41. Finding Adventures on January 10, 2022 at 5:18 am

I never have a full frame camera before..Cameras in my country are very expensive. I dream to get a D850 as my first full-frame camera in the future. You have a lot of cameras and lenses..

  44. Zeenat Bayat on January 10, 2022 at 5:20 am

An excellent review of 4 different cameras. It truly helped me understand the various features of all these cameras which can get quite confusing and over whelming for an amateur photographer like me. Thank you for this review and explanation.

  45. Alirio Davila on January 10, 2022 at 5:21 am

Thanks great video, you’re really cool! I was wondering g which way to go. I am n to a professional, I’m attending a video production school and You helped me decide to go with a Z6. I think ,I’ll be able to go a longer way before stepping up more.

  46. Tom Piorkowski on January 10, 2022 at 5:21 am

Great video, I know it’s a bit dated since Nikon introduced the Z6ii cameras. I was thinking of getting the Z6ii, however, I have two concerns, Nikons financial situation, and, adding a lens to these the Z6ii or Z7ii make them big and heavy. Thanks for the video, you did a awesome job as always.
