Why Canon will dominate 2020 | 7+ New Cameras & Many New Lenses Coming!

For many years Canon has been resting on the laurels of their Brand name and success. It has opened the door for Sony and other camera companies to step into the video markets. Canon finally responded with the EOS R in 2018, but its about to get absolutely bonkers for Canon. Here’s why! Enjoy!

It’s amazing that people would attack you when it came out. I agreed with you. Canon cripples cameras on purpose.

They are a pro leader in Cameras and should have had two card slots. I mean really!?!!

Canon has made some dumbfounding decisions the past few years and have purposefully held back innovation based on commercial interest. In consequence, they’ve alienated some of their user base and certainly do not deserve the benefit of the doubt any more. They need to earn it back through consumer-oriented innovation.

Im sorry but canon is already way behind the curve. 1dx iii needs to compete with the a9ii and theres no way its gonna do that with a mechanical shutter. Combined with the low tech of the traditional dslr in comparison, what could canon release short of a copy of the a9ii that would be relevant to the industry?

Do you see any more firmware updates for the 90D? In regards to the focusing issues.

I still have the banding problem on the EOS R in low light… What should I do because I can’t shoot at 1/125 and faster…

Whilst the video gives Canon users hope and I would like to see some of the rumours come true, Canon have been so disappointing for the last 3 or more years that I have already transitioned to Sony, who are years ahead on mirrorless and compact cameras.

  13. Bike Tall on April 16, 2021 at 9:41 pm

What about the Canon G7X IV? The G7X III finally added an external mic jack, but the auto focus was horrible. Even after the firmware update, there have been major complaints. I am sure people have avoided buying it because of this. So it would make sense that Canon would release a new G7X camera with amazing auto focus to repair customer confidence no?

  14. Stephen Scharf on April 16, 2021 at 9:41 pm

I think you’re bang-on on all points, Michael. The pace of the RF lens development says it all. The "sleeping giant" has been awakened.

  15. Nico Manansala on April 16, 2021 at 9:43 pm

Will canon abolish ef mount in da future?

  16. Terence Kearns on April 16, 2021 at 9:43 pm

You’re dreaming if you think canon will release all that in one year.

At the beginning of the video, you note how they held stuff back, but somehow you think they’re gonna behave differently?

Canon has a habit of resting on their laurels. They have great market share, so they don’t really give a shit about attracting new customers. They feed the chickens with crumbs.

If you’re into video especially, there are much better value tech offerings especially from the likes of Blackmagic, Z Cam, and Panasonic. All those companies are desparate to win you over and they pull out all the stops. Just look at what Panasonic did for their $1000 G9 hybrid… last firmware gave it 10bit 4:2:2 UHD @30fps internal recording and same external at 60fps. It has the best IBIS in the industry. Then for an extra $100 you can get V-Log L. IT’S A $1k CAMERA!!!!!!

Cannon have the goods, but they don’t give them out. They’re NOT gonna rule 2020. They could, but they won’t.

  23. kazcnepj on April 16, 2021 at 9:59 pm

As soon as Canon comes out with native lenses at a reasonable price I will buy the RP.

  24. LordArioh on April 16, 2021 at 9:59 pm

If you’re so hyped on video maybe you should consider a cinema line? What about 1DC? That was an ‘ahead of its time’ camera. Despite what all youtube says, in real world Canon always was and is ahead of everyone.

  25. artistjoh on April 16, 2021 at 9:59 pm

I hope you are correct. I have a lot of Canon glass and moving entirely to Sony is just too expensive. Having said that, the 90D is the first Canon in a long time to pull me back from the Sony drift. An EOS R Mark II without the dreaded video crop and no touch strip would be the cure (finally) for Sonyitus. Canon so desperately need a 4K full frame camera that is really full frame 4K. Sony got it right with the A7 series, and Canon needs to move its chess pieces to that same winning square that Sony has been occupying to devastating effect.

  26. James Strength on April 16, 2021 at 10:02 pm

Why would you purchase a DSLR for video. Purchase a dedicated video camera. I think its a great piece of equipment. Bit I dont shoot video.

  27. Kevin Blythe on April 16, 2021 at 10:08 pm

Here we go again. The New 1DX mk 111 will undoubtedly be a brilliant stills action camera and yes it will have full DPAF support when you are shooting 4K Videos at 24fps and 30fps mode. But, when you are shooting videos in 4K 60p/50p you won’t get DPAF. Cripple Hammer even in the new top of the line 1DX mk 111 camera costing USD 6.5k it seems. Additionally, when you are recording Videos in RAW mode you won’t have DPAF either. Why Canon, Why? Oh, so we get your great colour science but can’t actually auto focus that well in those modes. Ok, so more of the same then … but. so close to being the perfect camera.

  28. amangray films on April 16, 2021 at 10:10 pm

Canon has been holding back on video features in the past decade. If Canon had released 120 fps video on a DSLR in 2015, I would never had switched to Sony. In today’s market, it isn’t wise to hold back features. Raw video should be a feature that Canon focuses on in the first half of 2020 in order to win back it’s old userbase from Sony. No one want’s second best. Blackmagic design has a $2k raw camera. Canon doesn’t have a winner right now in the price range sub $5000.

    Canon 7d mk3????? …would be nice….

  30. Dan Deleon on April 16, 2021 at 10:14 pm

Safe to say this didn’t come to fruition. Sony is still outperforming Canon. (Canon user here.)

  31. sanch Sanchayan on April 16, 2021 at 10:15 pm

Canon RF lenses are overhyped. The Nikon 70-200 is sharper than the RF.

  32. SAT123.it on April 16, 2021 at 10:16 pm

I am a canon shooter waiting for years for a great hybrid camera. Great photos and great video with no crop, on camera IS, log recording, 4K 120fps…. Where is it? I’ll move to Sony or Fujifilm…

  33. samiebuka on April 16, 2021 at 10:16 pm

Canon has always been the leader. That has not changed. The real question is.. leader of what? Leader of something that does not matter anymore because there are tons of options that are fantastic.

  34. mielul Fuji on April 16, 2021 at 10:17 pm

Too little too late! I went from canon to sony and stopped at Fuji for now…. canon cripple hammer will never go away. I have a few fast canon fd lenses that I will keep forever and still use. I am not paying $3k for camera and $2k for fast lens…

  35. Joey joey on April 16, 2021 at 10:18 pm

Canon is gonna what??? lol wishful thinking, i think canon and nikon should consider making coffee makers and toasters instead lol

  36. Project Brickell on April 16, 2021 at 10:18 pm

Hybrid cameras that are great at video is where it’s at in 2020 and beyond. Canon has absolutely nothing of interest to me and I definitely don’t see them giving any of these mirrorless bodies good video capabilities. To be honest 24-25mp is all you need for great photos beyond that you’re really shooting billboards. Canon better give the EOS R a minimum 4K 60p 10bit internal otherwise Sony will eat their lunch come 2020.

  37. Anthony Martin on April 16, 2021 at 10:19 pm

I hope you are correct….but I need them to make a 7D mark 3 very badly. My 7D mark 2 feels very old and some of the wheels are not working well. I may have to buy another one. While I enjoy my 90D, it is in no way a replacement for the 7D mark 2…it simply cannot track like a 7D mark 2…but i love those MP out of the 90D. I hate the controls on the 90D, the joystick on my copy does not work very well. I think it is rather cheaply made and I think it suffers from copy-variation problems. Argh. That’s what you get with the "inexpensive", i.e., "cheap", stuff. I used my 7D mark very, very hard over the years and it has served me well.

  38. Jack Sparrow on April 16, 2021 at 10:19 pm

I would love to have an EOS R with integrated GPS, IBIS, a joystick and improved eye detect autofocus, but looking at the recent history of Canon I really doubt they will make such a Sony Alpha killer.

If a 5D Mk 5 is coming this year, the Mk 4 price should drop, which for me is the most complete DSLR up to this date and could be my main camera at least until a mirrorless with all this requirements is available.

  39. tallaganda83 on April 16, 2021 at 10:19 pm

I will believe it when I see it. That 70mp camera I reckon will be a total one trick pony. I can’t see it being the all round camera that say a D850 is. I hope I’m wrong but can’t see it. Will it have ibis? If so it’s first gen tech for Canon. What about video? Purposely crippled? Who knows.

  40. Peppermint Patty on April 16, 2021 at 10:22 pm

Loving my canon EOS R so much , the others are collecting dust … yes there are new RF lenses , but the fact that I can nail focus with my EF 1.2 and , switch focus points with a swipe , all while having exposure simulation and manual focusing peaking whilst using a tilt shift , etc ,etc ……. this one was the game changer !

  41. Kazunari Yoshikuni on April 16, 2021 at 10:23 pm

    Canon if you’re listening… the RF system needs a 100-400mm L lens

will Deere be a 7D MkIII i ave the 7D I. 7D’s are the top of the line apsc’s plz canon

  43. whatsupdate on April 16, 2021 at 10:25 pm

Canon may have the technical ability to offer cool features, but their marketing team will find creative ways to totally disable it or make it unusable just so they can protect sales of 5 year old “flagship” models.
